Terry's Thoughts April 2017
I am so glad to see and feel Spring in the air. As my sweet wife said recently, "Warm weather makes feel good!" I too feel better when the temps begin to warm especially after a rather cool or as some may say "cold" March. Spring means a flurry of activities around our churches. In the mists of these activities I pray you are able to experience the Lord in new and fresh ways we are and will be celebrating the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let's all remember what He did on the Cross for us. For without His sacrifice there would be absolutely not hope, however, since He did take our sins to the rugged cross and had victory over them in the Resurrection we can have eternal life and true hope. This realization should provide confidence in believers to face their lives and this life until He calls us home.
Allow me to share a few things concerning association life. First of all I want to remind you of our ch,fnge in the April Ex. Council and Spring Meeting. As we have already indicated our April Ex. Council and Spring Meeting begins at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday evening April 9. This is a change we hope will provide the opportunity for more to be involved in the life of our great association. Remember everyone is invited to both of these meetings but especially your Ex. Council members, pastors, and messengers are strongly encourage to be in attendance. We will have reports in the first hour and a time of worship beginning at 7:00 P.M. Pastor John Porter, new pastor of Meherrin Baptist church, will be preaching and the choir of Meherrin will be leading us in worship. This is a great opportunity to worship together as an association and to get a good picture of what is going on around the West Chowan Baptist Association.
Perhaps you have heard of the storm called Matthew. Well our area is still dealing with the after effects ofthat storm and we are now in the rebuilding phase of this entire Disaster Relief effort. As a reminder the Baptist Men have set up operation in Windsor at Cashie Baptist Church. Allen Harris is the local Blue hat in charge of this project and if you are interested in sending a team to work or supplies please give him a call at 252-536-9701. If you are interested in helping Cashie with food or supplies call Marsha Smithwick at 252-799-7751. Many within our association along with many outside our association have made a big difference in lives through giving and service. Let's keep it going and show the Windsor area that knowing and serving Christ through recovery is our mission as we seek to "Make Christ Followers who will Follow Christ." For your information the teams coming in to work are beginning to picking up and in fact, as of this writing, there is a team of college students from New Mexico along with a church in Hamptonville North Carolina working hard to help get people back in their homes.
One final encourage and reminder I want to pass on to you. We are currently recruiting mission team members for our annual association mission trip to our partner association in upstate New York. Last year we had a very successful trip and are looking forward to another great time of ministry with the sweet folks of Hudson Baptist Association. For more information and to register for this trip please consult our website at westchowan.org. Remember I love you and consider it a privilege to serve all of the great churches of West Chowan.
