Terry's Thoughts December 2018
Can you believe we are at the completion of another year serving the Lord together? My, how fast time travels especially when you are, as I am, enjoying serving our Lord where He has placed me.
December, of course, reminds us of the birth of our Lord, however, it also reminds us that God has been hard at work throughout 2018. Amid the hot chocolate, fruit cake (not a fan), cider, family celebrations, and church programs let us not forget to give the Lord praise for the new souls added to the Kingdom this year. Let us thank Him for how He has restored relationships within marriages, families, church families, and friends, for new disciple-makers, miracles witnessed, new ministries that have begun, and a host of great reasons for praise in 2018. Oh, how I praise Him for walking with churches, as well as individuals, during very difficult circumstance and ultimately overcoming each.
There is nothing we can’t overcome and see our way through when we are totally surrendered to Him. Let our ability to overcome be our theme in 2019!
Instead of a long list of reminders I would like to share a God story to conclude my series of articles for 2018. Over the last 12 months the Lord has allowed me the privilege to disciple many of our pastors, former pastors, dear friends from past ministries and places of service, a few of our deacons within the association, and finally my own family. Although each story and experience is special, one stands out as especially special for this old father and servant.
That experience was with my oldest son Terry Jr. After several months of praying, waiting on the Lord to impress Terry Jr. with the need, and me asking Terry Jr. to walk with me through this journey of disciple making the Lord worked it out for us to spend, initially 10 weeks, exploring the distinctives of G3. What God did for our relationship and how He enhanced the ability for my son to get his mind around the responsibility we all have to make disciples was incredibly powerful. Oh, I wish I could express here what that means to me, but as I wipe away the tears of joy let me say it was incredible. In fact God worked it out for him to pour into a man he works with who happens to also claim to be an atheist. I can’t yet tell you Terry’s co-worker is saved, but what I can tell you is that he has never heard anyone who cares more and eventually I am convinced he will find his savior soon. In the words of my 40 year old son, “Dad this process has changed my life as nothing else before and I will never not look for opportunities to make disciples.”
Oh, association, our God wants so much for us to live lives of substance and to be about His business of making disciples. The question we need to answer is whether or not we are willing to actually obey Him or continue to live beneath our privilege. I say enjoy the power and amazing joy that comes from living His plan out in our lives. For more information on how you might be able to experience this life changing experience please don’t hesitate to call. I look forward to a great new
year as we discover His will for 2019!!
Remember I love you!!
