Terry's Thoughts June 2017
As I sit here and compose this newsletter article we are enjoying one of our first real days of summer. The skies are clear, the temps are in the upper 80’s, and I am longing to be outside. All of this reminds me that summer is just around the corner and the activity level, for most families, is about to take off. We have experienced the end of spring, the end of school (for most), enjoyed graduations (both high school and college), and are anxious about the upcoming summer activities we all have planned. This has to be one of my favorite times of year.
As we think about the coming summer activities it’s important not to forget our commitments to the Lord, our churches, and our families. While summer is a great time to take a few days off and enjoy vacation with your families it is equally important to remember your local family of God. They are depending on you and your commitment to them including your giving. Summer is a difficult time for most ministries because many concentrate on spending their time as well as their resources on vacation activities and neglect the numerous mission trips, Vacation Bible Schools, the regular church budgets, and your presence in corporate worship. The fact is summer is a prime time to grow in our relationship with the Lord and continue to make disciples who will in turn make other disciples. Again let me emphasize it is important to get away with family (as Greta and I plan to do to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary) in order to nurture those relationships and build lasting memories, but make an even bigger memory as you show your family just how important nurturing your relationship with Jesus and His church really is.
Since this newsletter will cover the months of June and July, the following are a few reminders I want to make sure you are aware of:
1. We are still encouraging those who wish to participate in our annual Association Mission trip, scheduled for August 12-19, with our partner association Hudson Baptist Association of Upstate New York, to please register your participation at the association website (westchowan.org). Our limit this year is 30 and we are far from that number as of now. All the details (who, what, when, where, and dates) are on our website. The total cost will be on the website by the end of this month (May). It looks like the cost is going to be very minimal again this year.
2. Don’t forget our mid-summer Quarterly Meeting being held here at the MRC. This meeting is scheduled for Monday night July 10 beginning at 6:00 P.M. for the Ex. Board members (Team Leaders and Officers) and 7:00 P.M. for our Ex. Council Members (pastor and at least one member from each church). Obviously everyone is invited, but especially our officers and our team leaders as well as team members. I hope to give a formal report on our recent assessment and a possible road map for our future here in the West Chowan Baptist Association. Please don’t forget this important time together as an association.
3. Saturday July 22nd beginning at 4:00 P.M. we will have our annual ministers and family cookout here at the MRC. The last two summers cookouts have been great times of family fun and fellowship. Please mark your calendars for this important event. If there are any church members who would like to assist in making this a great time for those who faithfully serve us all please contact me at dad.stockman@gmail.com, here at the office 252-332-3235, or at my cell 252-241-5872.
4. Saturday August 5th beginning at 4:00 P.M. we will enjoy our second annual Men’s Rally here at the MRC. Last year was a big success and it was a joy to have our men together for a time of fellowship and worship. This year we will feature Cameron McGill pastor of FBC Dublin and current president of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Additionally, we will have great fellowship, worship, laughter and of course great food. Details should be up on the website by the end of May along with cost. The cost should be the same as last year ($15.00 per man) and registration, at our website or the office, will be important in order to know how many to prepare for.
Of course there are many other activities planned for this summer and the above are merely highlights. Please refer to the newsletter and website for constant updates on scheduled activities. I pray you all have a blessed summer and I look forward to reporting the many God sized blessings that took place this summer in my August newsletter article. Remember I love you and consider it an honor to serve each of you.
In His Grip,
Terry
