Terry's Thoughts (June 2018)
As you read this article the summer season will have begun in earnest. Memorial Weekend is behind us and we are beginning what will be a very busy season. Once again we will be experiencing the joy of VBS, mission trips, and of course family vacations. I look forward to seeing the pictures, hearing of the God stories, special services such on the river and etc., and fellowshipping with our folks from the WCBA as we do life and ministry together. I would also ask that you share those moments with us via email and website.
In the hustle and bustle of our summer let us not forget that we all have the responsibility to be constantly looking for those opportunities to make disciples. In fact summer gives us great opportunities to pour into the lives of family, friends, and neighbors. I am convinced there is a Biblical expectation for us to do just that, therefore, let’s keep our eyes open for the opportunity to enlarge the Kingdom of God this summer.
In addition to making disciples please also remember to give during these months of activities. Your churches and your association are very much dependent on your giving to maintain our ability to serve each other and for us our churches. We are grateful for the faithfulness of the churches within the WCBA and look forward to maintaining a steady ministry this summer.
Since this is a June and July newsletter the following are activities, along with my normal duties, that describe what I will be involved with around the association and beyond:
1. June 10 – 13 – Marks the dates of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Greta and I will be in attendance representing our great association. Please pray for us and our convention as we gather from all over the country in Dallas, TX.
2. June 17 – GRETA AND I WILL CELEBRATE 41 YEARS OF MARRIAGE!! The Lord has richly blessed my life with Greta and I look forward to another 41 years of God centered marriage with the love of my life Greta!!
3. June 23 – 29 – Marks the dates for our annual Mission Trip to our partner association Hudson Baptist Association of Upstate New York. We have 20 people from several churches around our association participating and we will have the opportunity to serve the folks of Lee, MA and Saratoga Springs, NY. Please pray for us as we serve and that the Lord will allow us to lead others to salvation. Please pray also that He would give us safety on our trip.
4. July 9 Marks the date of our mid-summer Ex. Board and Council meetings here at the MRC. We begin those meetings at 5:00 P.M. beginning with the board meeting first.
5. July 21 – Marks the date for our annual Pastor and family summer cookout. Pastors please mark your calendar for this important activity designed to foster fellowship among our leaders.
6. July 22 – I have the honor of participating with Holly Springs in their annual Homecoming.
7. August 12 – I have the privilege to preach the Homecoming message at my former church in Waynesville, NC. We are looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and celebrating another milestone at that great church. Don’t worry we love our WCBA and will return that day.
8. August 19 – 22 – I have the honor of preaching a revival with Mt. Carmel Baptist Church here in North Hampton County. Please pray for Larry Godwin and the sweet folks of that church as they prepare for what the Lord has in store for them.
As you can see I have a rather full summer in addition to my regular duties of serving the best association in our state. I consider it an honor to serve you and will be praying as you move into this very busy season. Remember I exist to serve you not the other way around so please don’t hesitate to call if you have a need. Greta and I both love you!!
