Terry's Thoughts September 2018
It seems like just yesterday we were looking forward to summer with all of its fun activities, vacations, and the many ministry opportunities planned. Here we are at the end of summer a bit tired, but filled with great memories of fun times with family and how the Lord moved among us. As we close out another summer of fun activities and ministry let’s not forget Fall presents several new opportunities to impact lostness within our association. With Fall we see kids going back to school or college, harvest coming in, annual meetings, and a host of other great activities that remind us how blessed we are and how much we need the Lord in our lives. I would challenge each of us to remember there are so many around us without any hope at all and we have the answer they need to fill that hope as well as the mandate to share that hope. So you understand I am not asking you to do anything I am not committed to do myself. The Lord is allowing me to disciple many of our pastors, some church leaders, and my own family members as I am commanded to do. Currently I am personally discipling four men with some waiting in the wings. Folks this aspect of my ministry has rocked my world in a positive way that I hope will have a great impact within our association. I am encouraged to see other brothers and sisters pouring into family, friends, and neighbors with the gospel and doing life with them in obedience to His command for us to make disciples. If you have questions on how you can begin a lifestyle of disciple-making please don’t hesitate to contact me or possibly your pastors who have information concerning what we are doing. Let us commit now to be the lighthouses He has called us to be and truly make a difference within our communities. The following are some important dates we all need to remember:
September is State Missions month. As you know our state convention receives a state missions offering each year for the fine work that is accomplished throughout the world, our state, and our local area by the fine people of the BSCNC. The theme this year is “Hands On” emphasizing efforts to be hands on with our mission activity. If you need promotional material we have that in our office for free. Also remember that our association receives a 10% tithe off the amount of money our association contributes in order to assist us with our missions efforts here within the West Chowan Baptist Association (WCBA).
September 17 is the date we start back our monthly Pastors Fellowship meetings. On September 17 we will feature Marty Dupree, AMS of Little River Baptist Association. On October 15 we will feature Alan Blume, Editor of the Biblical Recorder. Please go to our website PASTORS www.westchowan.org to register for these dates.
October 11 the WCBA will host “Transitional Pastor” training, here at the MRC, conducted by Dr. Bob Lowman and Dr. Dougald McLaurin. This important training is designed to assist those interested in becoming interims that truly help churches during times of transition without a pastor. If you are a retired pastor/minister and would like to participate please visit our website for more information and to register for this training.
October 16, beginning at 6:30, there will be a special called choir practice for those interested in participating with our associational choir preparing for our Annual Meeting. The practice will be held at Askewville Baptist Church. Please mark your calendars and participate in this opportunity to lead our association in worship during our annual meeting.
OCTOBER 21 BEGINNING AT 4:00 p.m. MARKS THE DATE FOR OUR ANNUAL MEETING. WE WILL GATHER AT ASKEWVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH. Unlike before this year we have arranged for you to register your attendance by registering at our website www.westchowan.org. The reason for this registration is to assist us with a more accurate count for dinner that evening. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this great time of reports, worship, and fellowship. Our theme this year is “You Were Appointed” based on John 15:16. Dr. Chuck Campbell with be our guest speaker along with others within our association assisting.
Of course there are many other great opportunities for service together within our association however space will not allow me to detail. Many of the details are featured within the pages of this newsletter. I would encourage you to check them out. As always please remember, as I celebrate four wonderful years of serving as your Associational Missions Strategist (New adopted title within the SBC to replace DOM), it is my honor to serve you and your churches. I love you more than ever and consider myself to be blessed for this privilege. If you, your pastor, or congregation are ever in need of assistance please don’t hesitate to call. We will do our best to meet ever need no matter the request. We can do so much more together than apart and you are not alone as you attempt to do what God has called you to accomplish.
In His Grip,
Terry
