Terry's Thoughts September 2019
As 2019 speeds by us we are seeing some amazing things happen among the churches of the West Chowan Baptist Association (WCBA). For example there have been several baptisms, some of which, were done in some unusual places such as a pool at Vidant, a home pool, and the Chowan River. Oh my, the Lord is on the move here within the WCBA. Those of you who are participating in the “Who’s Your One” nationwide evangelism effort are beginning to see those you have been praying for come to church and some are even giving their lives the Jesus Christ. Praise HIS holy name!! Are you and your churches participating in the gospel presentation to those without hope? My hope and prayer is that you are finding it important to be more involved in the gospel presentation than anything else you do.
Another amazing event that deserves mentioning is the most recent mission trip to our partner association in Upstate New York. This past August we, once again, had the privilege to serve the Open Door church of Lee, MA. As many of you know they have been attempting to occupy buildings that have been purchased, but needed much work in order to past inspections. Even though they are only 5 years old, by faith, they have embarked on a very ambitious journey to remodel and occupy these buildings in order for the gospel to have a presence in this very dark area of our country. In fact the Open Door church is the ONLY Southern Baptist Church (SBC) in the city limits of Lee and only the second SBC church in the entire county where 97% of the population is lost. Needless to say there are many opportunities for the gospel to be proclaimed in this very populated area. This year, after many volunteers and a number of monetary gifts, the church was able to hold the first services in their newly renovated worship center. While there, in August, we were able to assist as they conducted their first VBS. God is certainly blessing their efforts and for the last three years the saints of the WCBA have been a part of this miracle called Open Door Church. To quote their Pastor Jim Guenther, “Everywhere I look I see the finger prints of the West Chowan Baptist Association.” THANK YOU WEST CHOWAN FOR YOUR FAITHFULNESS AND WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER WITH THE HUDSON BAPTIST ASSOCIATION AS WELL AS YOUR WILLINGNESS TO GO. This year’s team was amazing as was the previous years. We had 17 people representing 11 of our churches on this year’s team and God used us in some amazing ways. We hope to share the details at our Annual meeting October. Additionally, we should have a brief statement and pictures on our website, www.westchowan.org, very soon.
There are so many other amazing life changing events and activities occurring that prove God is still in control and moving among His people. Many of these events and activities are detailed throughout our newsletter and some on our website. (Please help us stay informed with information on your activities). We need to remember that whatever we do we must always remember it is for His glory and the lives of those without a relationship with Jesus. Also don’t forget to check out the calendar of activities and save those dates. Finally, remember I love you and consider it an honor to serve the amazing WCBA!!
