Terry's Thoughts August 2018
WOW our summer has sped by and so much has happened. Incredible mission trips, VBSs (Please don’t forget to send us your reports), revivals, powerful national SBC convention, homecomings, special services, and most importantly new souls have been welcomed into the Kingdom of God. I am so excited to see how God is at work among us and how He is waiting for us all to join Him where He is at work. Hopefully you are doing all you can to join the Lord where He wants to work among your congregations and families.
Even though we are and have experienced a great summer there are some among us who are struggling to find their way. As of the writing of this article we have ten (yes you heard me 10) of our sister churches who are without pastors. That constitutes 1/6th of the total churches within the WCBA. While I am confident these churches will prayerfully seek out and find their next shepherd, it is so important that we join them in praying for God’s will to be done concerning their searches. I have had the privilege to assist many of these churches and hopefully they will be able to find their next pastor soon in order to move on with God’s agenda among them. They need their sister churches praying and supporting them!
The following are important dates and events I hope you will consider being a part of:
August 14 – Marks the date of the Region I Missions Rally being held at Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. The rally begins at 6:00 P.M. with dinner and rally following at 6:45. Region I includes the WCBA and the Chowan Baptist Association. In order to participate, especially with dinner, you must go the Baptist On Mission Website to register. Their website is www.baptistsonmission.org.
August 25 – Marks the date for the annual WMU Church Leadership Training Rally held here at the MRC beginning at 8:30 A.M. For more information concerning this event please contact Barbara Marks WCBA WMU President at 252-532-5617.
September is North Carolina Missions month. The theme this year is “Open Hands” and based on Psalm 145:16. As you give remember 10% of this offering comes back into the association to assist us in our efforts to reach our communities for Christ. Resources for this offering are available both from the convention at www.ncbaptist.org or here in our office. Please let us know if you need help promoting this offering.
September 10 – Marks the date our WCBA Pastor’s Fellowship gets started back. We will be hosting our friend Dr. Marty Dupree Evangelist and current DOM of Little River Baptist Association. That begins at 10:30 that morning. Please register at our website.
September 20 – 21 – Marks the dates for an Associational Leadership and Pastors training seminar being held at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Pastors and church leaders are encourage to attend. More information and registration instructions are available on our website www.westchowan.org.
October 18 – Marks the date of the ReNew18 Pastors Conference hosted by Lifeway and the North Roanoke Baptist Association. This conference will be held at the NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. The times for this event are 8:30 A.M. through 4:00 P.M. You can register at www.renew18conference.eventbrite.com. There are some registration deadlines so get registered soon.
October 21 – Marks the date of our Annual Fall Meeting/October Ex. Council Meeting. Yes the annual meeting will be upon us soon. This is of course the third Sunday of October and our meeting begins at 4:00 P.M. that afternoon. Askewville Baptist Church will be hosting our meeting this year and we look forward to seeing you there. More information concerning this meeting will be available soon in September’s newsletter and on our website.
These are just a few of the important times, events, and dates you need to save. The work of making disciples never ends and must occupy our thoughts and activities 24/7. I am looking forward to finishing out this summer with a bang and jump into Fall with great joy. As always remember I love you and consider it an honor to serve you and your churches.
In His Grip,
Terry
