Terry's Thoughts December 2019
Once again we find ourselves at the conclusion of another year and looking forward to the adventures we will inevitably have in 2020. However, before we begin planning all the new ways we will experience the Lord in 2020, there is still the month of December 2019 filled with many exciting activities we all are looking forward to. There are the traditional Hanging of the Greens services, Christmas Cantatas, Christmas gatherings of all kinds, Christmas Eve services, and finally gatherings of our own families to celebrate the birth of our Lord. As we gather, let us all keep, in proper perspective, what the Birth of the Savior truly means. It means that God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, decided to send His son to earth to pay the price for our sin. The process began in a feeding trough so many years ago and was concluded on a rugged cross which led to an empty tomb!! My prayer for us all this year is that we would remember the true purpose of His birth and keep the commercialization of Christmas from clouding out Christ this Christmas.
Please allow me to share some reminders and dates that will be important for us to remember:
Associationally, the Christmas Shoebox effort yielded approximately 1800 plus at all of the collection sites including the MRC. Praise the Lord and thank you for your amazing generosity. So many deserving children, around the world, will be blessed by the shoeboxes and the gospel.
December 2 marks the date for our annual Pastor and wife Christmas banquet here at the MRC. We will celebrate together with Marty Dupree and his wife.
Please pray for the leadership, of our association, as we gather on December 7 for our annual planning retreat. This is always a great time together as we look forward to a new year of serving the WCBA.
Both December 1 and 8 mark the dates for our annual IMB Mission studies sponsored by the WCBA WMU. On December 1 the study will begin at 3:00 P.M. at Galatia Baptist Church and on December 8 the study will begin at 3:00 P.M. at Greens Cross Baptist Church.
Don’t forget the Week of Prayer for International Missions is December 1 through 8. The national goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $165,000,000.00. Let’s do our best to help in this effort.
Finally, the office will be closed for the entire week of December 23 through December 27 in order for us all to celebrate Christmas. This means you will need to have your January newsletter articles into the office NO LATER THAN MONDAY DECEMBER 16!!!!!!
Please take advantage of the many Christmas activities happening all around our wonderful association. Many of those activities are listed here in the newsletter and on our website. I would also like you to know just how much of a privilege it has been serving you this year and I so look forward to serving you in an even greater way in 2020. Remember also that I love you more than you will ever know.
