Terry's Thoughts July 2019
While sitting with a brother whom I have a discipling relationship with, he made an important statement I would like to share with you. This statement perfectly illustrates the need we all have to daily “surrender” to His will for our lives. The statement was, while attempting to define surrender, “When I make a commitment I am still in control, but when I surrender someone else is in control.” What an accurate definition of what it means to surrender to Him daily. I am struck by the many commitments I have that are in need of daily surrender to Him. The more one practices the principle of daily surrender there is less stress in their life, there is a calmer spirit in their soul, there is less worry about the things they can’t do or don’t have, there is a greater ability to handle difficult issues, and a much closer walk with the Savior. I wonder if it wouldn’t better for us all to begin practicing surrender more while seeking ways, from the Lord, to grow His Kingdom here in the WCBA.
July is upon us and many of our churches have either completed their VBS activities or are gearing up for them during July. Please don’t forget we would appreciate you forwarding your VBS reports to our office once you have completed your schools. Along with the many VBS activities, some for the very first time are attending Youth Camps. Youth Camps are a great place for the very foundations of one’s spiritual life to be formed. My prayer is that those who are sending, going, or leading will be sensitive to the Lord’s leading during camp and not be afraid to follow His leading in their lives.
July 8, beginning at 7:00 P.M., marks the date for our Summer Quarterly Ex. Council Meeting. This is a mid-summer meeting to catch up on the activities of the association and hear reports from various ministries. We will have special guest with us discussing the issues surrounding the recent reports of abuse within churches around our country. Dr. Brian Davis and Dr. Ashley Allen with the BSCNC be presenting great information which is available for us to use in order to protect the victims of abuse and how to handle those caught up in this crime. Abuse is all around us and we must lead the way in confronting it both for protection and redemption where needed. This is another way our association is providing helpful information to the churches of the WCBA. Please do all you can to be in attendance?
Finally, please allow me to introduce the new pastor of Galatia Baptist Church. His name is Matthew “Matt” Dupuy. His wife’s name is Melissa and they have four beautiful children. Their first Sunday will be July 7. Please make them welcomed as you have opportunity to meet them.
As always please remember we stand ready to assist your church when the need arises. Please don’t hesitate to call. We exist to serve YOU not the other way around. It is our honor to serve.
