Terry's Thoughts May 2019
Not only does May bring “May Showers” but it also brings life after JoAnn in the WCBA office. JoAnn has served our association faithfully for just over 32 years and begins a new life in retirement beginning May 1. I ask that you remember her in prayer as she begins a new chapter in her life. As we look toward the future I would also ask that you remember us as we continue to seek JoAnn’s replacement. I had hoped to have her replacement in place by now, however, that has not been possible, therefore, I implore you to pray for myself and our Moderator, Derik Davis, as we interview candidates as well as the Administrative Support Team when they recommend a replacement to you.
May also ushers in warmer temperatures and excitement about annual outdoor activities. Many are already working to prepare for summer VBS activities, mission trips, conventions, vacations, and a host of other important activities. With these activities comes numerous opportunities to MAKE DISCIPLES!! There will be children who hear the gospel some for the first time, families that will be changed because a parent has found a job or even more importantly has found a relationship with Jesus, families will be reunited through annual reunions, new friends will be established, new ministries will get their start, and revivals will be scheduled. My hope is that we will face these activities and opportunities with one thing in mind to surrender these activities to the Lord for His will to be accomplished.
May also reminds us that we still have far too many churches without pastors. We need to join our sister churches, in prayer, as they prayerfully seek the servant God has designed just for them. Searching for a new pastor can be an overwhelming task, but is necessary in order to know the heart of God when seeking the next Sheppard to lead them. I do want to welcome our newest pastor and wife Rev. Bobby and Wanda Gettys of Merry Hill Baptist Church. Bobby began his ministry at Merry Hill Easter Sunday morning and has hit the ground “running” (he is an actual runner). Pray that both Bobby and Merry Hill will grow together as they follow the Lord’s will for their lives. There are other, of our sister churches, who are close to finding that one the Lord has lead them to and I am hopeful we will be able to announce new pastors very soon.
Finally, I would ask that we not ignore the many ministry training opportunities through our association, the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC), and the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). I spent a week, in April, attending the annual meeting of fellow DOM’s, throughout our state. We discovered a renewed since of urgency among all of these groups to assist our churches in the mission of reaching our world for Christ and making Disciples that will make other Disciples. I, along with our leadership, stand ready to provide the tools you will need to accomplish what He has called your church to achieve where He has placed you. You can consult our website westchowan.org or certainly call our office for more information and assistance. It is mine and our honor to serve your churches. REMEMBER I LOVE YOU AND AM COMMITTED TO HELP US ALL BECOME THE GREATEST FORCE FOR THE KINGDOM THIS STATE HAS EVER SEEN. WILL YOU JOIN ME?!
