Terry's Thoughts August 2019
Someone once told me, several years ago, that “church activity really slows down in the summer, therefore, just chill out pastor and get back to church stuff in the fall.” Wow was he ever wrong. I am not sure how your summer is going, but mine has been jam packed and there is no relief in sight. I am not complaining and in fact it excites me to see so much ministry occurring all around us. The VBS movement, here within our association, is in full swing with great numbers of attenders as well as salvations being reported. Special services along with mission trips abound. If you are not involved in the life of your church or our association you could be missing something very special. Most importantly allow me to remind you our most critical activity or job is to take every opportunity presented to us this summer to share the gospel with those we come in contact with.
One of the important activities we participate in each summer is our annual summer Ex. Council Meeting. As you know the Ex. Council is tasked with carrying on the business of the association between annual meetings. I would like to briefly summarize our recent July 8th meeting as meaty and filled with great information. Along with important team reports detailing the types of activities occurring within our association we were honored to have with us Dr. Brian Davis and Dr. Ashley Allen both from the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC). They presented a pathway our churches could navigate the complicated issues of abuse that seems to be on the rise in our country and yes even within the church. Their presentation set before us a pathway to insuring we are prepared to address such issues if and when they occur through policies and procedures within each of our churches. In fact I have sent those presentations to each of our pastors. We have also placed these same resources on our website for easy access. Folks we cannot ignore this senseless crime that could very well be occurring even now among us. Please don’t allow your church, its members, and the possible victims suffer because we were not prepared to handle these situations. If you have other questions please don’t hesitate to call.
Finally, please be reminded of events that truly need your prayer. The following are just a few of those events requiring your prayer:
August 3-9 – Our Associational Mission Team will be serving Open Door Church of Lee, MA in conjunction with our Partner Association Hudson Baptist Association. We have 17 people representing 11 of our associational churches from all three counties. We are excited and looking forward to a great time of ministry.
August 13 – Our annual summer Region 1 Missions Rally sponsored by Baptist On Mission. These meetings give us an opportunity to hear updates on mission activity through our churches, the BSCNC, and the world.
August 24 – Marks the date for the annual Association WMU Leadership training event. Please remember Barbara and her leadership team as they help prepare the WMU groups within our churches for a new year of ministry locally, nationally, and internationally.
There are many more activities among our churches, our association, the (BSCNC), and around the world that are outlined within this newsletter, our website www.westchowan.org, the BSCNC website www.ncbaptist.org as well as www.baptistsonmission.org, www.namb.net, www.imb.org, and of course www.sbc.net. Please take advantage of all the relevant and important activity that will assist us as we seek to impact lostness among the world in which He has called us to serve.
